(Example - fruit, veggies, crackers & pretzels). Gym day - Child must have gym shoes to participate. Lunch (Hot lunch is available or your child may bring a cold lunch. Milk and juice are sold for cold lunches. Please put your child's name on his/her lunch box or snack. Always put lunch money in an envelope with his/her name on it). FIRST GRADE READING LIST
These books are available at the local library and in book stores. 2. Read two Caldecott books. These are award winning books and available at the local library and in book stores. 3. Read a book of your choice. 4. A book report should be completed for each book that is read. The book reports will be due the first week of school. Each book report must contain the following information:
SECOND GRADE READING LIST
A list of Caldecott Medal books are at the library. THIRD GRADE READING LIST Read 2 books over the summer from the following categories. Fiction One book must be a fiction book from the Newberry Medal Book list (available at the Public Library.) Non-Fiction One book must be a non-fiction book. Some themes we will cover in 3rd grade are the plant and animal kingdoms, solar system, community, life in America, health, the saints. Reading about these topics will be a good preparation for 3rd grade. Activity/Report For each book you must choose one activity (see other side ) for a total of 2 activities. These are to be turned in (or performed) during the first week of school next year. These will be the first reading score for 3rd grade and will be worth 50 points each or 100 points for all. Please follow the directions. Points will be deducted for incomplete activities, spelling, incomplete sentences, etc. All activities/reports must include title and author. Book Report Activities Choose from these ideas. Make sure all your spelling is correct. Neatness and effort are part of the grade.
Write a 1 page summary of the book. Your summary must include : title, author, a short description of each character, what you liked or learned, and a paragraph telling about the book. Put your summary on good paper and check all spelling, please. 2. Bag of Characters: Use a paper lunch bag and fill it with the characters from the book. Draw each character, cut it out, and put the characters' names and a sentence about each character on the back of its cut out. On the front of the bag put the title and author. Then draw a favorite scene from the book. Use lots of color. Use correct spelling and punctuation. On the back of the bag include a summary of the book. 3. Reader's Theater: (May be done with a friend who read the same book) Write a script about one or two events in the story. You may act it out yourself, use puppets, or record it on video. Be sure to dress for the parts if you're acting it out and have created scenery or props for your play. Let me know ahead of time when you're ready to perform it for the class. Your script needs to be turned in to me when you perform and needs to include title and author. Check it for spelling and punctuation. 4. Poster:( You may choose this activity for no more than 2 books. ) Create a colorful poster to advertise the book. Be sure to include the book's title and author. On the poster draw a scene from the book you think is important. Make it colorful. Write a short summary of the book. Include in your paragraph an explanation of the picture you drew and why you think it's important to the story. Glue your paragraph to the front of the poster. Make sure your spelling and punctuation is correct. 5. Mobile: Create a mobile. On your mobile include the title of the book, author, each main character, setting. Attach a short summary of the book and what you liked about it to your mobile. ( See attached sheet) 6. Stand-up Publishing: Make a storyboard or kiosk for the book. Be sure to include the following: title, author, a short summary, your opinion, a picture or poem about it. Watch your spelling and punctuation. 7. Dress Up: Come to school dressed as a character from a book you read. Be ready to tell us all about the character or person you represent, to answer questions about the character, and explain why you chose this character. Be prepared to give an oral summary of the story. Be sure you know the title and author of your book. Fourth Grade Reading List Every fourth grade student must fulfill the three (3) summer reading requirements listed below and a Summer Math Skills Sharpener. The goals are to enhance your learning and keep your skills sharpened over the summer. All summer requirements are due the first week of school.

Bring your report to a close. Include something you have learned from the characters or story. Grades 5 thru 8 Reading List Every middle school student must fulfill 3 summer reading requirements. The goal of this requirement is to add to your learning and education, and to help you educate yourself. The book reports are due the first week of school.
A brief quiz over this assignment will be given: 5th : Read The Book of Genesis. 6th : Read The Book of Psalms. 7th : Read The Gospel of John. 8th : Read The Acts of the Apostles.
The subject area book report will be an expository paper. After reading the book you chose, follow the format below to write your paper: 5th : Read a biography of a president. 6th : Read a biography of a scientists or mathematician. 7th : Read a biography of an historical figure from the eastern hemisphere. 8th : Read a biography of a writer or a poet.
After reading a fiction book from the list on the back side of this paper, follow the format below to write your paper: Format for Requirements #2 and #3: Heading- Include the title, author, publisher, and copyright of your book. Introductory Paragraph- Present the subject of your paper and try to capture the reader's interest. Descriptive Paragraph(s)-: Briefly describe the character, setting and plot. Do not feel you need to tell the entire story. Summarizing is a necessary skill. Conclusion Paragraph: Sum up your report and give any insightful comments you have. *For categories 2 and 3 use loose leaf paper, cursive, and ink; double space and write on one side. You may type it if you do the typing; double space in font size 12 if you type. You may call Mrs. McCullough with questions at 926-1707 or 464-3801.
